This course will present an overview of the regulation of construction contractors by DBPR and CILB including the discussion of the statutes and rules governing contractors, the disciplinary process, the interaction of DBPR/CILB statutes and rules with local ordinances and state and federal law; and an update of legislative activity occurring during the recent session of the Florida Legislature. This course will present an overview of the Florida Construction Lien Law which governs all private projects in Chapter 713, Florida Statutes and public projects governed by s. 255.05, Florida Statutes. This course will discuss the parties and their rights, services under the lien and bond statutes, critical time periods for Notice to Owner/Notice to Contractor and Notice of Commencement and termination of projects. The course will consist of a PowerPoint presentation, lecture and question/answer presentation.

Anti-Terrorism Blast Mitigation

Number of Hours: This is a one (1) hour course. This course satisfies the one hour business practices requirement.

This course is designed to educate contractors on good glass and glazing blast mitigation practices. Additional topics to be discussed are engineering criteria, federal codes and proper installation of systems.

OTHER CONTINUING EDUCATION SEMINARS

The Division of Workers Compensation is offering free classes to educate employers, business owners, licensed contractors and other interested stakeholders to help them understand their statutory obligations under the Workers' Compensation Law. The Division is partnering with the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to provide employers with information relating to both workers’ compensation and workplace safety. Continuing Education Units are available to individuals licensed by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the Department of Financial Services, Bureau of Fire Prevention and the Florida Water Well Administration.
